Why would I become a member of Bebo?

Who wouldn't want to be a member of Bebo? Everyone who is anyone is a member of Bebo. Even the Queen is on Bebo*. (Although her homepage is private and only visible to her personal friends, footmen and corgis. You can tell when she's online though, because the internet is flown at half mast.)

Bebo is the online community allowing you to share photos and blogs, draw on your own and other member's White Boards and, oh, a ton of other stuff too. A ton. Literally a ton.**

Perhaps you're a student? If you're at school then instead of bunking off maths and having a crafty smoke round the back of the chemistry labs, why not use your time more wisely and get your school or college onto Bebo where you can hang out with other students?

Ditto if you're at college or University. Why not try getting up earlier than lunchtime for once and getting online to Bebo? Plus you can join your old school or college as an Alumni so you can catch up with past students or warn current ones about those weird teachers.

* Possibly.
** Not literally.

How do I keep my homepage private?

If you wish, then your homepage will only be visible to your personal friends, ones which you have accepted. If you have no friends, like a geek, then naturally you can also make it visible to all as a way of trying to get some.

So how do you do these things? Easy. Sign into Bebo using your username and password. On your own homepage click on the link 'Edit Homepage'. Scroll down until you reach the section titled 'Accessible Homepage'. Now uncheck the box next 'Make my Homepage visible to everyone'. There. It's not rocket science.

If you join your School or College on Bebo then other registered Bebo members will be able to view your profile. However your contact details and email address will always remain visible to your direct friends only. Unless you are a geek and don't have any, as I think we've mentioned.

Do I have to join my school or college to use Bebo?

No, you can use Bebo without registering your school or college. This is especially handy if you go to a school for dumb kids but don't want anyone to know. Likewise if you're at a pretend University, like Coventry, or Idaho State.

However, if you do register your school or college on Bebo then you can view other students or Alumni from your own fine educational establishment. You can also join clubs*, will have direct access to school forums and photos, create your own brick on The Wall and the whole exciting world of Bebo will spread before you like a magical thing of wondrous beauty.

*With the exception of Chess Club. The first rule of Chess Club is not to talk about Chess Club.

How do I join my College?

Simple. You will need a valid email address for the college. Most have one, even Coventry and Idaho State. After registering with Bebo click on the College tab, choose your country, then choose your college. To join now click 'join now'. (Tip: The clue that enables you to join now is cleverly hidden within the phrase 'join now'.)

When will I be emailed?

Initially we will email you to verify your email address in case you're a big fat liar. Assuming you're not (and you won't be because everyone on Bebo is lovely) you are now in control of all the email you receive from us.

To assume control (a bit like the Borg out of Star Trek but with less killing) simply sign in and click on the 'My Account' link at the top right hand side then click on 'Change Preferences' which you'll find nestling under the 'Email Preferences' section.

From time to time we may send you service emails on items specifically affecting your membership, (such as changes in terms of service for example) but we promise never, ever, ever, ever to clog up your inbox with badly spelt adverts for Viagra, penis extensions or cheap mortgages.

Is Bebo Free?

Is the Pope Catholic? Yes. And he’s on Bebo.*

*Possibly.

I keep receiving invitations from friends to join, but I would prefer not to. How can I stop this?

Invitations to join Bebo are either sent directly from your friend's email client, in which case we are unable to prevent these from being sent, or your details have been entered onto Bebo.com, in which case you can unsubscribe by clicking here.

Note that emails are only sent to you at the direct request of a friend. Your email address is not added to a mailing list because of this. Thus, if you are ever emailed by any Nigerian conmen pretending to work for a bank or by anyone trying to sell 'CiALLis&&', whatever that is, you can rest assured it won't have come from us.

How do I change my email address that I use to sign in?
Again. Nothing could be easier. With the possible exception of Paris Hilton.
  1. If you’re not signed in already - click here to do so and then enter your email address or username and password.
  2. Click on the 'My Account' link at the top right of the page.
  3. Under 'Account Details' click on 'Change Email'.
  4. Enter your desired email address details and click the SAVE button.

I have lost my password. What can I do?

Nothing. You are doomed and have only 48 hours to live.

Hahaha. We're joking. Again, it's not a problem. Simply click here and enter your email address and we will reset your password for you.

If you are generally having problems remembering your password then here are two things worth noting:

  1. When you sign in, consider ticking the box called 'Sign Me In Automagically'. This will save you having to sign-in next time you visit Bebo on the same computer. Only use this option if you are on a private computer, rather than one shared with other people, or someone could log on in your name and replace your photo with one of David Hasselhoff with his shirt off. *shudders with horror*
  2. You may wish to change your password to one you find easier to remember. Once signed in you can change your password at any time by clicking on 'My Account' link at the top right hand side, then click on the 'Change Password' link.

How do I cancel my Bebo membership?
You can cancel your membership at any time (though we can't imagine why you'd want to):
  1. If not already signed in - click here to do so and enter your email address or username and password.
  2. Click on the 'My Account' link at the top right side of the page.
  3. Click the 'cancel your membership' link located at the bottom of the 'My Account' page.
  4. You must then click the YES button to actually cancel your membership. If you are unable to sign-in to cancel your membership then please Contact Us and we will be happy to help you. Because we're nice like that.

Somebody drew/wrote on my white board and I don't know who the person is. I want them found and shot

Easy tiger. We don't condone violence round these parts. Anyone who can view your homepage can also write and draw on your white board. If you don't like the posting you can simply delete the entry. You are in charge and you have complete control over your profile. If this person is a real pain then you can also block the member, which stops them from messaging you and writing or drawing on your whiteboard. And frankly it's no less than they deserve.

If I decline a friend request, or I remove a person from my friend list will the person find out?
Nope. Not a chance. Our lips are sealed. Your friends are your business. If you decline a friend request or delete a person from your friend list that person will not be notified. They will just flounder around in their own unpopularity without ever knowing why. Your personal contact information will be removed from their friend list and they will be none the wiser. Gosh, life can be cruel.
